Bull Run Coffee in Lyn-Lake to expand
Ever since its inception in 2011, Bull Run Coffee Bar has been the unofficial clubhouse of the Lyn-Lake/Carag neighborhood. For good reason: Their expertly brewed Arabica beans are the vehicle for a carefully curated menu of house drinks, as well as coffee standards that keep traditional-minded customers happy.
The current sliver of a coffee shop remains carefree and unpretentious despite its large following, but co-owner Brent Ringate recently decided that increased demand meant it was time to expand.
Bull Run will be staying in the same building, taking over the space the OM Collective yoga studio inhabited before uprooting to West Lake Street. The old Bull Run space will be incorporated as a part of the expanded digs.
The new space's decor is wood-centric -- wood floors, reclaimed wood shelving, and a built-in wood bench on the shop's south wall -- a contrast to the current Bull Run's stark yet inviting concrete foundation. An open-air concept is in the works down the road, and with additional sidewalk space on the south side of the building more customers will be able to drink their coffee al fresco.
Initially, the menu will forge ahead unchanged, good news for aficionados of Bull Run's specialty drinks and the pastries from Patisserie 46 that perfectly accompany them. The additional space for an in-house kitchen will then allow Bull Run to serve homemade sandwiches, salads, and small plates, about 30 days after the launch of the expanded shop, Ringate says.
Mum's the word on exact menu items for now. "We're still refining that, and getting all that finalized," says Ringate. "Right now we're really focused on the build-out of the space... we don't want to work through the kinks of menu planning."
Despite quick progress, there's no official opening date for Bull Run's expansion, though Ringate says he's hoping to be open in the newly renovated space by this weekend.
