Brooklyn Center burger joint a microcosm of the economy
You might be surprised by who's behind the counter flipping burgers at a Brooklyn Center Checkers restaurant. A former civil engineer, Walgreens manager, Apple tech support person, and a sous chef, for starters. Kare11 ran an interesting story recently on the "creative" employment avenue some local folks have had to turn to as a result of the economy. Restaurant part-owner Wendy Reno tells Kare11 that she got over 300 applications in just a few week's time from people seeking work at the new store. Reno and her husband, who used to be in the home building business, plan to open more than a dozen more of the burger outlets. Checkers primarily serves burgers and other sandwiches but stands out from the pack a little with its "Classic Wings."
