Since we've been having this pantywaist winter with barely enough snow to roll a ball and half the below-zero days as last year, what's your excuse for not getting outside?
Perhaps you need more beer. And fire pits. And hot pokers.
On Saturday, February 21, Ward 6 is hosting its 2nd annual Bockfest, where they'll get a fire crackling on the patio, pour a bunch of Schell's Bock -- a dark amber, malty German-style beer, and caramelize the heads with hot pokers.
"The difference and effect on flavor may be negligible, but the overall effect is awesome and fun," said owner Bob Parker, who also hints that there may be some "fire-juggling (in TIGHTS!) in the street alongside," and maybe not, too, but if that doesn't happen, another enticement is German-inspired specials like his own red cabbage and spätzle.
Musician Hank Thunander will also be on hand to "blow out his squeezebox with good German drinking songs!"
This sounds like one of those parties where you yourself wind up in tights trying to juggle hot pokers in the snowbank. But not to fear -- it only goes from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., just enough time to down a couple of those poker brewskis and emerge with your dignity intact.
