Blind beer tastings and yoga in a vineyard this Week in Food
The Guthrie hosts a Share Our Strength fundraiser
Drinking has gotten more adventurous lately, or so this Week in Food has led us to believe. Whether you're doing yoga in a vineyard (and topping it with a glass of wine) or doing blind tastings of 28 specially chosen beers, it's almost like Outward Bound for folks who like to tipple.
6/25 Tonight top chefs and mixologists in the Twin Cities are coming together to host an event filled with great food, drinks, music, and prizes -- all in the name of fighting childhood hunger. The Taste of the Nation HOTlist features James Beard Award winner Tim McKee as the honorary Chef Chair, and participants can sample dishes from more than 20 restaurants, including La Belle Vie, Strip Club and Tilia. All of the proceeds of the event, which is being held at the Guthrie Theater from 7 to 10 p.m., go to Share Our Strength Minneapolis. To get yourself a $75 ticket visit the Share Our Strength website.
6/26 If the bum economy means you're using the word "austerity" more often, then your wallet will thank you for checking out the Linden Hills Co-op class "Small but Mighty: How to Grow Pea Shoots & Micro-Greens." Learn how to grow your own food in this hands-on educational class that will teach the ins and outs of pea shoots and various micro-greens. From seed to harvest, you'll learn how to grow your own on a small scale using recycled produce containers, keeping the process clean and simple. No fancy grow lights or materials needed! In addition, you'll enjoy a pea shoots and micro-greens tasting, learn quick and easy meal ideas, and take home your very own starter kit. The class runs 6:30-8 p.m. and costs $25 for members, $30 nonmembers. To register call the co-op at 612.922.1159.
6/27 If you're a fan of New Holland brews, then head to the (appropriately chosen) Amsterdam Bar and Hall for an epic beer dinner that features great pairings of plates with New Holland beers. Things kick off at 6:30 with a reception and a Golden Cap Saison to lubricate the fun, with the dinner beginning at 7 p.m. You'll enjoy four courses, each paired with Foir Witches Black Saison, Black Tulip Tripel Ale, Mad Hatter IPA and Dragon's Milk Stout respectively. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased by clicking here.
6/29 We'd probably be a lot fitter if all fitness classes were like this: Michele Hoffman of Bluff Country Yoga will be leading an hour and 15 minute yoga class in the Cannon River Winery vineyard. The session begins at 6 p.m. and costs $20 per person (includes yoga class and glass of wine!). Space is limited, so be sure to preregister by calling the winery at 507.263.7400 to reserve your spot.
6/30 Saturday the Better Beer Society hosts its second Brown Bag Blind Series, a unique tasting event designed to challenge and educate your palette. Today's theme is "Summer Session: Backyard BBQ Beers" and tasters will receive 28 hand-chosen taps broken into four categories. Small plates of nibbles will be provided to accentuate the flavors of the various beers. Participants will be encouraged to take notes and will be given score cards to fill in guesses as to what each beer style is (bonus points if you name the actual beer itself). The event will be held at Butcher & The Boar and runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets cost $45 and can be purchased here.
