Today marks the start of the week-long food and drink celebration
We have lots of Oktoberfest celebrations to look forward to next month, but the grandaddy of them all is at Black Forest Inn, and they get a leg up on the competition by starting the festivities relatively early.
The celebration starts tonight at 6 p.m. and goes all the way until October 7. Here are some details on the food, music, and, of course, beer-swilling events that will take place over the next 10 days:
Tonight is Prost! night, which is an interjection commonly used in Germany when toasting with friends, so a very apt name for this kickoff night. Make up your own toast to give, or select from some traditional ones provided by Black Forest. Those brave enough to do their own (rhyming is encouraged) will be rewarded with prizes.
The night continues with music from the Matterhorn Trio and keg-tapping by a local celebrity (last year it was KARE 11 meteorologist Sven Sundgaard) who will be kept secret until toasting time. Customers can sample brews from Hacker Pschorr and subsequently get pictures taken with a giant pretzel.
Speaking of food, they'll have sausages, roast chicken, and soft pretzels for sale from vendors tonight, and if you're a big-time brat fan, be sure to mark your calendars for October 1, which is brat night at Oktoberfest. For $15 you can help yourself to a brat bar stocked with homemade brats, chicken curry sausage, weisswurst, Polish sausage, celery relish, fried peppers, fried onions, sauerkraut, mustards, curry ketchup, rye bread, potato salad, red cabbage, and pickles.
