Best new Minnesota State Fair foods
It's here! The list of the new foods to be found at the 2010 Minnesota State Fair has been released, and there's a lot to get excited about.
Somewhere between the deep-fried cheeseburger sliders at Axel's and the deep-fried shortcake at Granny's Cheesecake & More, we here at the Hot Dish plan on getting our greasy mitts on these five new foods to see if they live up to the hype. Can't wait till August 26!
5. Chicken Fried Bacon at Giggles' Campfire Grill
It might seem a little hypocritical to diss Cincinnati's chili while welcoming Texas's chicken fried bacon to a celebration of Minnesota agriculture. But the thought of thick-cut bacon that's battered, breaded, and fried--and then topped with gravy--makes us lose any capability for logical thinking.
4. Grilled Marshmallow, Chocolate, Banana sandwich at Moe & Joes Coffee
We sadly haven't had our fix of campfire banana boats yet this summer, so we're looking forward to trying them in sandwich form. The fate of these hinges on the chocolate, so we really hope they're not using Hershey's.
3. Fried Mashed Potatoes at Potato Man and Sweetie
Deep-fried bacon cheddar mashed potatoes on-a-stick. We're not quite sure how these are going to hold together, but if they taste anything like Haute Dish's tater tots, we'll be in spud-soaked bliss.
2. Deep Fried Bologna at Netterfield Food Court
Call us the trashiest of white trash and see if we give a hoot, cuz we are so looking forward to the deep fried bologna, served on a bun or a stick. How is it going to go on that stick, exactly? (Folded once or twice, no?) And should we squirt it with ketchup?
1. Korean BBQ Tacos at Blue Moon Dine In Theater
Ever since the Kogi truck hit the streets of LA, Korean tacos are the hottest foodstuff going on the coasts. Blue Moon wisely decided to bring a beef short rib and sweet-spicy pork or chicken version here, for those of us who are still dreaming of the ones we polished off with a side of Korean-style poutine at the Nami stand in the San Francisco Ferry Building.
