Bell's Hopslam ale taste test

On its website, Bell's Brewery describes its hot-off-the-presses seasonal brew Hopslam as "A biting, bitter, tongue bruiser of an ale." Well, I can describe it in one word: college.

The beer was released to limited Twin Cities locations yesterday: among them the Bryant Lake Bowl, Acadia Cafe, Grumpy's N.E., Buster's and the Muddy Pig.

The orangey-amber colored beer comes in one of those ... fancy? ... glasses, an immediate signal in beerland that the stuff's got some heavy-duty alcohol content.

Yep, it's 10 percent.

The flavor is distinctly fruity, definitely hoppy. At first I thought mango, but then settled on peach. And fancypants glass notwithstanding, it sort of made me feel like I was drinking for the first time.

It's also a great daytime sipper. Get yourself some soon. It's only available through sometime in February.
