Belgian-style beers and a new cuvée on tap at Boom Island's Boom Days

Boom Island Brewing has been crafting Minnesota-made, Belgian-inspired brews since 2011. Earlier this year, the brewery completed an expansion that increased production and taproom capacity and included space for a soon to be annual event -- Boom Days.

From July 18 to 20, the weekend leading up to Belgian National Day (Belgian Independence Day), the brewery will release special beers, host live music and food trucks, and celebrate Belgian history and culture.

There will be classes on Belgian beer history, games such as Sjoelbak and Rolle Bolle, and an evening of trivia. The lineup of bands is still being arranged, but the brewery has confirmed that the Bill Patten Trio will be playing.

As for beer, Boom Island will introduce Cuvée de Boom on tap and in 750ml bottles for the weekend. This blend of 55% blonde ale fermented with 45% Pinot Grigio grapes combines flavor elements of both a golden ale and a dry, sparkling white wine.

Friday: Trivia with Ian Rans (Fearless Comedy Productions). Special prizes will be awarded. Release of Cuvée de Boom. Food truck: Natedogs.

Saturday: A day of music (Bill Patten Trio), Belgian-inspired beer-related games (Sjoelbak and Rolle Bolle) and activities, as well as special beers on tap. Food truck: Simply Steve's.

Sunday: "Beer Geek Belgique," a day of learning about Belgian beer, the history of beer in Belgium, and sessions on homebrewing Belgian-style beer with speakers including head brewer Kevin Welch and experts from Northern Brewer. Food truck: Tollefson Family Grill.
