Asian food events dominate this Week in Food
Two-for-ones on Twins home game days at the Wondrous Azian Kitchen.
It's an Asian-heavy week in food, and we're not complaining. Rare is the week when we get to kick things off with sushi at Tom Pham's and wrap it up sucking down sake at Moto-i, with a visit to Sawatdee wedged safely in between.
Tuesday 4/12 Checking out the Twins vs. Royals game tonight? Head over to Tom Pham's Wondrous Azian Kitchen, where "Twins for One" drink specials take place two hours before and two hours after every home game. That means two-for-one on booze and appetizers while you cheer on the hometown team. Our advice: Be a true homer and sample the new cocktail and sushi roll created for Tsuyoshi Nishioka.
Wednesday 4/13 It's Thai New Year! Celebrate the annual Songkran Festival with traditional food, Thai dancing, water blessings and a special dinner menu at Sawatdee today. Call 612.338.6451 for reservations.
Thursday 4/14 Common Roots Café hosts a Meet the Brewer night for patrons to mingle with the minds behind popular local beers. Tonight Dan Chang of Rush River Brewing will be on hand with a cask of UberAltBeir to discuss all things hoppy. Stop in for a pint and some knowledge. 7-10 p.m.
Friday 4/15 The best thing about tax day is the knowledge that it won't come around again for 365 more days. Celebrate that fact at Enjoy's "Burn Your Tax Day," where patrons can throw a copy of their taxes on the restaurant's fireplace and receive a free gift. Naturally, there's plenty of food specials for $10.40 to remind you of the hell you've just been through. The burning begins at 5:30 (although the tax deadline this year is actually April 18). Call 952.891.6569 for more information.
Drinking sake for charity? Yes, please.
Saturday 4/16 Do your part for Japan by stopping by the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program Alumni Association's special benefit party at Moto-i. For $5 at the door guests will enjoy a silent auction, prize raffle, and a DJ set by members of Solid Gold. Free appetizers and half-price sake will be provided by Moto-I, and all proceeds will be sent to help victims of last month's earthquake and tsunami. Event runs from 5-9 p.m.
