Andrew Zimmern and Will Allen to headline Kickapoo Country Fair
Your healthy alternative to the typical deep-fried fair.
Save the date: The Midwest's largest organic food fest, the Kickapoo Country Fair, will take place on Saturday, July 30, in La Farge, Wisconsin.
Event organizers from Organic Valley foods have recruited two keynote speakers with prominence on the national food scene: the Twin Cities' own Andrew Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods series, and Will Allen, the Milwaukee-based founder of the Growing Power urban agriculture center and recipient of a MacArthur "genius" grant.
Organic Valley, a farmer-owned cooperative, created the Kickapoo Country Fair eight years ago to offer a healthy alternative to the usual deep-fried fair. In addition to the speakers, the event will feature workshops (including a food foraging adventure through the woods led by Sam Thayer, author of Foragers Harvest), craft and cooking classes, issues-based seminars, food samples, farm tours, and artistic performances, including one by country music headliner the Kentucky Headhunters.
Fair admission costs $5 for adults, $2 for kids 12 and under, and free for kids five and under. For more information about the event, including the official schedule and area lodging information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.kickapoocountryfair.org.
