Amelia Santaniello, Frank Vascellaro with breaking news on what's for dinner

Husband and wife team Amelia Santaniello and Frank Vascellaro co-anchor the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts for WCCO--taking up prime dinnertime real estate for their family (the couple has three children). Working around their busy schedules--and working in time for State Fair snacks in between live broadcasts--is all part of an average day's work.

1. You are both on the air during typical dinner time. How does that affect your family's schedule and dining habits? We're really fortunate because Frank's mother cooks dinner for us most of the time. She cooks a lot of Frank's childhood favorites. We go home after the 6 p.m. news and have dinner with our family at that time.

2. Who is the main cook at home, and what is their signature dish? We both love to cook, but Frank is the main cook at home. He says his signature dish is grilled tenderloin and crab legs... of course, only for special occasions.

3. You both have Italian heritage and were married in Italy. Do you have a favorite place in the Twin Cities to indulge in Italian fare? We love Al Vento and Bar La Grassa for great Italian food and Buon Giorno in Lilydale for casual Italian dining.

4. You've been broadcasting from the fair for the past week--did you get a chance to sneak away and sample the food? What are your respective favorites? My favorites are pork chops and Spaghetti Eddie's pasta. Frank's favorites are the turkey sandwich, gizmos, London broil sandwich. He hangs out a lot at the gelato stand there too.

5. Your colleague Jason DeRusha describes himself as an aspiring wine and dining expert. Has he tried to wine and dine you both? If so, were you impressed? Funny, Jason hasn't tried to wine and dine us. He talks a lot about the great restaurants he's been to, but that's been about it.
