A sneak peek at Loring Park's newest restaurant
UPDATE: Since we first ran this story, the restaurant has announced more about their preview event this weekend. Read on for more info.
Not only are we riding a beautiful rainbow hued high as we head into this weekend's Pride festivities, but we also have a preview of a highly anticipated new restaurant. We spoke with chef David Yusefzadeh who will be behind the burners of the new incarnation of Joe's Garage under Chef Jack Riebel has been brought in to consult and write the menu. This weekend we'll get a first taste of the food we can expect to find inside.
Overlooking Loring Park, they'll have a few tables set outside to serve some intriguing little tidbits and cocktails. Expect to find a fried oyster slider and a shrimp slider from Chef Jack Riebel. The essence will be fresh, bright, light and respecting the integrity of the fresh ingredients. While the sliders aren't indicative of what the food will be in the restaurant, this is a taste of what diners can expect to find in the bar and at the hotly anticipated rooftop patio.
Yusafzadeh joins the team from the Smack Shack and had also spent time cooking at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental hotel in Hong Kong, and will share some of those worldly skills with Minneapolis eaters.
In addition to the food, they'll also be serving a couple of Pinnacle vodka cocktails and craft beer. The word on the streets is that when they open they'll have a bar program based on the blank-canvas spirit -- vodka. Can they do what Jack Riebel did for bourbon did for Butcher and the Boar? Stop by this weekend to find out. They plan to be serving these first tastes up to Loring Park revelers all day Saturday and Sunday.
There will also be entertainment. Here's the schedule:
Noon 'til 6 - Lady Heat (with Sara Jean Hanson, Danielle Morris, Christy Hunt, Christian Fritz)
6 'til 8 - DJ Tk
8 Until close- Brian Engel (of Hipshaker/Hot Pants/Worldwide Discotheque)
Grand Finale with more delicious food, refreshing beverages and funky dance music
Noon 'til 2 - Lori Barbero
2 'til 4 - Lenka Paris
4 'til 6 - DJ Tk
The restaurant is still expected to open this fall and the patio will debut next May.
As for the name? They're still working on that.
