A great wine club for free
There are several wine clubs in the Twin Cities, though many are more focused on socializing than on pouring wines with any character or providing educational instruction. But one very good wine club is offering you a chance to learn about South American wines free of charge on Thursday in St. Paul.
Peter Vars of Thomas Liquors in St. Paul describes the Wine Education Series as a set of highly informative, guided tastings that highlight a given region, varietal, or producer. A departure from most wine club events, the Wine Education Series tastings are casual, yet focused on conversation facilitated by a winemaker or importer from the region. The tastings are held six to eight times a year at various locations and are often free. Attendees get deep discounts on the wines poured at each event. It's a chance to rub shoulders with some of the world's great winemakers in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
The tasting on Thursday, from 7 to 9 pm in St. Paul, will feature Argentinean winemaker Marco Fernandez of Finca Decero and producer Errazuriz from Chile, which produce single-vineyard wines. There is no cost for the event, but you must email Peter Vars to attend at firstname.lastname@example.org. He will provide you with more details about the club, which he is looking to expand.
