There have been plenty of Oktoberfest celebrations going on this past month, but tomorrow Grand Cafe in Minneapolis is throwing a Ducktoberfest, which in addition to being a festival of local beer from Harriet Brewing, is also, as you might have guessed, a delicious four-course love letter to waterfowl.
Here's what's on the menu and where you can snatch up the last few tickets.
The French-influenced cafe's Wayne Schroeder and Travis Diede are teaming up with Harriet Brewing to make four courses of duck and eight-ounce beer pairings that highlight the flavors of fall.
To start, there's a rich duck liver pate offset by pickled Asian cucumber, a reduction of Harriet's Wodan Weizen beer, and a rye toast. Naturally, they'll pair this one with the German-style Weissbier Wodan Weizen.
This will be followed by a salad course of mixed greens, smoked pears, beets, Marcona almonds, and bleu cheese all dressed with a vinaigrette made from West Side IPA and fresh grapefruit juice. This one goes with Harriet's old standby Belgian-style West Side IPA.
The entree is a seared duck breast with apple-fennel pave, braised collards, and cherries soaked in Dark Abbey with duck jus and pickled crab apple. The robust Belgian-style dubbel is the beer sample for this course.
Finally, dessert will be ginger spice cake with a compote of cherries and a glass of Harriet Oktoberfest.
There are two seatings for this special dinner -- one at 6 p.m. and the other at 9 p.m. The Cactus Blossoms will provide live entertainment all night. Tickets are $65 with tax included (gratuity is not) and are available here.
