We've all been there. You fancy a little buzz, but you're not about to slam back a shot of Jack. Those times when you want to feel toasty without getting sloppy drunk. Nights, or hell, afternoons when a cold beer tastes great, but you crave just a little bit more. Enter the Icehouse sipping shot.
Too small to be a proper cocktail, too big (and ice-filled) to knock back, sipping shots fall somewhere else within the matrix of drink options. Icehouse took the concept of a cheap shot and made it new again. Only forget the dollops of whipped cream and the quasi-pornographic names. Icehouse's creations are way more fun, with sophisticated flavors to match, for only five bucks a pop.
Order up Satan Laughs and Spreads His Wings, a concoction of bourbon, hazelnut orange liqueur, and spicy bitters served on a chick tract coaster (bonus points for the fact that this drink is served on top of an evangelical Christian pamphlet). The drink tastes like a citrusy old-fashioned, heavy on the bourbon, with a spicy, throat-tingling kick at the end.
Grandpa's Choice keeps it simple with rye and a dash of sarsaparilla bitters, while the Red Star is more complex. A kind of carbonated Negroni, it's got Cocchi Americano, Campari, gin, and fresh citrus juice. Purists will enjoy Strangers in the Night, a shot of vodka with a hint of salty caramel, along with a marcona almond-stuffed green olive garnish. The best part? You can enjoy your mini-martini knowing you've got enough lucidity left (not to mention cash) to try a few more.
