We know that this year we have until April 18 to file our taxes. That doesn’t really help much, it just enables the procrastinators. Whether you need a little carbo-loading to power through your last-minute filing, want to celebrate a refund, or need to drown your sorrows, there’s a deal for you.

FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar

Now through April 18, both the downtown Minneapolis and Mall of America locations are offering a special tax day $10.40 menu. Choose any of the restaurants’’ “to share or not” appetizer items from the bar menu with a choice of house cocktail, glass of house wine, or draft beer. The offer is good from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. now through April 17 and all day April 18. Bring a friend so you can mix and match appetizers.

Kona Ice

Need to put off that island vacation to pay your taxes? Don't despair, you can get a taste of the tropics right here. The Kona Ice truck will be at Mill Ruins Park on April 18 handing out free shaved ice and leis from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It’s not Hawaii, but sometimes you have to take what you can get.

Hard Rock Cafe

If you don’t mind embarrassing yourself for a free meal, Hard Rock Cafe at Mall of America will let you sing for your supper. On April 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., you can take the stage and, backed by a live karaoke band, sing a song for the other diners. The payoff is a free Legendary Burger. Who knew all that drunken karaoke would pay off some day?

Marin Restaurant & Bar

If all you really want to do is forget about taxes, head to the Library Bar at Marin in downtown Minneapolis. From 4 p.m. to midnight, take advantage of tax-free cocktails and bites (11% off the total bill) and a special menu of cocktails inspired by history’s most infamous tax evaders. The Al Capone combines Bulleit rye, Carpano Antica, and Campari; the Donald Trump has “100% Donald Trump Vodka,” orange bitters, and an “Orange Comb-over” garnish. But our favorite is the Bernie Madoff: You buy a shot of Campari, the bartender drinks it, you’re left feeling bitter. Seems appropriate for tax day.
