In an effort to bolster the up-til now-flagging dining scene on the east side of downtown Minneapolis, Eastside is coming to the rescue. The place will anchor the Latitude 45 luxury apartment building at 301 W. Washington Ave. S. and serve "unique" but classic American food. It's a Ralph Burnet property, and Remy Pettus, formerly of Cast & Cru and Old Log Theatre will be executive chef, along with Nick Dugan as chef de cuisine, who is out of Seattle, most recently working at RN74, a high-end fine-dining restaurant in that city.
Get ready, Woodbury: Cien Tacos is promising "real" Mexican food, calling itself "the suburbs' first authentic taqueria." Strong words, but we suppose they're not entirely wrong when they say "What most Midwesterners identify as South-of-the-Border cuisine is actually very watered-down and incomplete,” though "most Midwesterners" might be a bit of an over-generalization. Anyway, they say the namesake means "100 tacos" in Spanish, because the custom tacos can be ordered in a hundred different combinations. "Hard to find" (in Woodbury, perhaps) proteins like al pastor, lengua, and barbacoa will be on offer. "We think Woodbury diners are more than ready for it," says chef Oscar Bustos.
