You know how all of your friends are always going to Spain, and sitting on sailboats and digging their toes into the sand on Ibiza and flitting off to the Canary Islands, little beaker of Manzanilla in hand? And the Instagram photos throw you into an envious froth? Well, have the next best thing this Thursday, October 8, at Gyst. There, they will be celebrating the release of Cuvée Speciale GYST, a wine made especially for the restaurant in La Mancha, Espana, by natural producer and farmer Samuel Cano, who Gyst calls one of the "most thrilling, yet unknown producers in Spain." Along with this, enjoy a special menu of Spanish ingredients and flamenco guitarist Michael Ziegahn between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
And, more live flamenco! This time at Solar Arts by Chowgirls, during the Northeast Farmers Market Gala. Thursday, October 8, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., enjoy a menu featuring product from Northeast Farmers Market vendors and a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund the activities and mission of the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased via eventbrite here.
Were you a big fan of Nicollet Mall's Masa, and will you be saddened to see them, their larger-than-life Frieda Kahlo doll, and their too-good-to-be-true lunch special go away? The restaurant has you in mind as it bids Minneapolis adieu. The chefs are rolling out greatest hits menu items for their final month in business. The restaurant's final night slinging mole will be October 24.
This week's special is mango and jicama salad with romaine hearts, shaved radish, queso fresco, and habanero mango vinaigrette in addition to half chicken in traditional mole served with Mexican rice and fried plantains. For the week of October 12, it's pan fried seabass, avocado espuma, black rice, and pineapple salsa as well as chicken enchiladas in guajillo salsa. For the week Week of October 19 (Restaurant Week) dishes will be traditional pozole with hominy and pork shoulder, plus pork gorditas with guacamole and salsa roja.
Betty Danger's is celebrating its Fall Cotillion on Thursday, October 15, at 6:30 pm. Remember, Betty Danger's is not just a Northeast bar and restaurant but a bona fide country club and golf course too, and when they opened last year they vowed to have some good tongue-in-cheek fun with yuppie traditions, so here ya go.
General admission of $40 gets you access to the best dressed contest, music, dancing, and complimentary bubbly, punch cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres. The restaurant and bar will be closed to non-ticket holders for this event, and a portion of the proceeds goes to benefit Free Arts Minnesota. Purchase tickets here.
