100 Favorite Dishes: Passion fruit cake at Pardon My French
As a countdown to the Best of the Twin Cities 2010, coming this spring, Hot Dish is serving up a hundred of our favorite local dishes. Send your own nominations to email@example.com.
Is it one of those days that makes you feel like flipping to the calendar and saying, Happy Birthday to Me? Then head down to Eagan's Pardon My French, where Frédéric Klein (half-brother of Patrick Bernet, the Patrick behind the terrific Patrick's bakeries) makes an almost-too-perfect passion fruit cake. See that there, in the middle of the picture, the bright orange gem topped with fresh raspberries and a dewy apricot-sugar glaze? It's a cinnamon-coconut sponge cake shell filled with frothy vanilla and sweet-tart passion fruit mousses. All we can say is, Oh la frikkin' la! And that it's a lot cheaper than an island vacation.
