100 Favorite Dishes: No. 82, Keys Cafe's Eggs Benedict
Fans of Eggs Benedict know all too well that variations of the rich breakfast dish can be found all around the Twin Cities: Some good, some bad, this dish is no longer a breakfast staple, it's now considered a perfectly good lunch, or a late-night dinner.
The no-frills eggs benny from Keys Café is one of the area's best and it's served at all hours. Whether it's 8 a.m., or 8 p.m., swing through Keys and indulge your poached egg and Hollandaise sauce craving.
Perhaps the best part of this particular Eggs Benedict is that it's not trying too hard. The standard ingredients -- English muffin, ham, poached egg, and Hollandaise sauce -- are just what you'd expect, but prepared just right so that each element doesn't overwhelm the next. The English muffin is crispy and not made soggy by an overabundance of Hollandaise. The egg is cooked just long enough to leave the yolk liquid, but the rest firm. The thinly-sliced ham isn't overdone, but slightly brown and crispy on the edges.
Keys serves their Eggs Benedict with a side of hashbrowns -- completing the perfect breakfast (or dinner, whichever you choose.)
