100 Favorite Dishes: No. 70, Indeed's L.S.D. Honey Ale

As a countdown to the Best of the Twin Cities 2014, coming April 16, the Hot Dish is serving up 100 of our favorite local dishes.
100 Favorite Dishes: No. 70, Indeed's L.S.D. Honey Ale

It seems out-of-place, a little cruel even, to be talking about such a distinctively summery ale in the midst of a frostbite-level freeze, but Indeed Brewing's L.S.D. Honey Ale was deserving of a spot on our list of 100 Favorites for many reasons.

First, it's a revival beer. Indeed's head brewer Josh Bischoff started out, as many of our great local brewers do, at Town Hall Brewery where the original version of this award-winning beer was first produced.

Second, it's a terrific beer for pairing with food. We first had it at Blackbird Cafe's happy hour alongside their chicken and lemongrass potstickers swimming in a fragrant ginger-garlic broth and it was equally good with such a light, delicate dish as it was with the rich pine nut and olive oil cake we paired it with at home.

Third, its makeup is unique. Indeed refers to the blend of lavender, sunflower honey, and dates (L.S.D.) in the base of this beer as "a kaleidoscope of flavors" rather than "an acid trip". It's gentle overall, but the floral scent of the lavender and nutty honey sweetness definitely come into play, complementing the crisp finish of this beer.

Sure, beer might not technically count as a dish (though we know plenty of you have had beer for dinner a time or two), but this particular brew is among our favorite potables of the last year, and plays a key role in any dining experience.
