100 Favorite Dishes: No. 67, Good Day Cafe's Izzy's Fried Egg Sandwich
As a countdown to the Best of the Twin Cities 2014, coming April 16, the Hot Dish is serving up 100 of our favorite local dishes.
It's been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, we think that all depends on how you approach it. Packet of oatmeal? Eh. Glass of juice on the commute to the office? Not that great. Good Day Café? Yes please. Their Izzy's Fried Egg Sandwich might end up being the most important meal of your week.
The fried egg (complete with a soft, burstable yoke) is topped with a melted sharp cheddar and layered with shaved ham. Caramelized onions, sliced tomato, and avocado make this sandwich a well-rounded, top-notch meal.
Part of the appeal of this (and any menu item) at Good Day Café is the venue. Warm yellows, oranges, and reds adorn the walls. Wood pillars, an inviting fireplace, and a wide open set-up make this a welcome place to grab one of their specialty coffees and a slice of homemade chocolate cake or to gather a few friends for a birthday dinner.
If you're stopping through for the Izzy's Fried Egg Sandwich, remember that breakfast is served until 11 a.m. on weekdays and 4 p.m. on weekends.
