KFAI originally hit the airwaves on May 1, 1978. Broadcasting from the belfry of the Walker Community Church, its antenna reached out a humbling 10 watts to its listeners, who were presumably limited to the Seward neighborhood. Fast-forward 30 years, and the station now broadcasts from the IDS building and will soon transition to digital format.
