Minnesota doesn't have as strong a history with rodeo as Texas does, but each summer over the decades Hamel Rodeo & Bull Ridin' Bonanza has brought a bit of the Old West cowboy tradition to the Midwest. Throughout the weekend, pro cowboys and cowgirls will try their best at roping, wrestling, and riding animals for cash and bragging rights. This year will feature a visit from animal trainer John Payne, a.k.a. the "One Arm Bandit," who will perform stunts with horses and buffalo, all one-handed as he lost his arm in an electrocution accident years ago. Other activities include free pony rides for kids an hour before competition each night, an after-party each evening (except Sunday) at Inn Kahoots, and a parade and flea market on Sunday.
