Some folks like to honor the Fourth of July by grilling in the backyard. Others party it up on rooftops. Others go camping. But for many Minnesotans, summertime patriotism involves at least a little bit of time spent celebrating near the Mississippi River. Things kick off Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. with the Hot Dam 5K Fun Run, a walk/run that takes participants through a course filled with nature and scenic views of downtown ($40; $15 kids.
