This April and May is the Season of Cambodia in New York City. Among the rich offerings of music, art, and film is the dance/theater group Khmer Arts Ensemble, which premieres its new work, "A Bend in the River," in Minneapolis before performing in the festival. Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, the group's artistic director and choreographer, is a 2013 McKnight International Fellow, a program administrated by Northrop Dance, which is presenting Khmer Arts Ensemble. The drama includes 15 dancers, eight musicians and singers, and two giant crocodile puppets by sculptor Sopheap Pich, whose work is currently being exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
