Things are going well for Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native Jerrod Carmichael, who headlines at Rick Bronson's House of Comedy this week. However, it wasn't always this way. "I had a bread sandwich this morning," he once told audiences. "For those of you not familiar with a bread sandwich, that's where you take two pieces of bread, and you eat those motherfuckers." In those trying times, he would gladly accept help from folks. "At the grocery store, they always ask if I need help carrying my bags out. I always accept. But what they don't know is that I don't own a car. I just like the look on Alejandro's face when we get to the end of the parking lot." Carmichael was originally a fan of sketch comedy; it was a friend who suggested that he go it alone and become a standup.
