What's Greg Warren talking about onstage these days? "I don't know," he answers while sitting in a coffee shop somewhere in his hometown of St. Louis. "When I say that, I'm not answering your question with 'I don't know.' I'm literally starting every show with 'I don't know,' because I don't. As I get older—I'm 43—I'm not sure of anything anymore. I found out yesterday through Microsoft Word that I've been spelling 'separately' wrong for 30 years, which is discouraging." Warren started performing standup comedy in Cincinnati before moving to Houston and finally to L.A. "I thought that's what you were supposed to do." However, California wasn't what Warren thought it would be. "When I was living in Los Angeles, I wasn't in a very good place to be writing material," he says. "All of my best stuff has been written since leaving Los Angeles. But that doesn't mean I won't return at some point."
