Wisconsin pastor confesses to ripping off $10,000 from church
The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away: The Rev. Stuart Zak has admitted that he embezzled $10,000 from Fond du Lac's Good Shepherd Lutheran Church over the course of about 10 years, including dipping his fingers in the church's collection basket. Now he's out of the church's pulpit, he's paid back the money, and his case is being referred for prosecution.
"Apparently they were doing some auditing on books, and so they came up with a discrepancy in the funds and they started their internal investigation," Captain Steve Klein, Fond du Lac Police Department, said.
The result of the internal investigation, according to the church's news release, Reverend Zak "confessed his sin."
"There is forgiveness in the Lord. And we, as a church council, forgive Mr. Zak," the church said in a news release.
