William Jacobs gets court date in child sex assault

William Allan Jacobs, the 66-year-old former captain of the Minneapolis Park Police charged in January with sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy, learned today that he will stand trial on Oct. 25.

Jacobs was arrested in January after the teenager gave police a detailed written account of his abuse, and they had him place a monitored telephone call to Jacobs in which the two talked about the teens fears of contracting a sexually transmitted disease.

The teenager told police that Jacobs began his sexual advances in the summer of 2007 when the two shared a tent on a camping trip: He woke up in the middle of the night and had to push Jacobs away after discovering that he was "rubbing his chest from his pectorals down to the area of his pubic hair."

More from the criminal complaint:

In fall of 2007, the defendant again arranged to take trips with Child A. Typically, the defendant would pick Child A up on either Friday evening or Saturday morning. They would then spend the day together doing various activities. In the evening, they might watch a movie. On multiple occasions, the defendant then showed Child A pornography on his computer. The defendant would then take Child A into defendant's bedroom to sleep. During the night, Child A would wake up and find the defendant touching his penis. The defendant would typically masturbate Child A to the point of ejaculation and then massage the semen onto Child A's chest. Child A estimated that these abusive episodes occurred approximately 28 times between fall of 2007 and spring of 2008.

The sexual abuse continued and escalated to penetration in the summer of 2008. On multiple occasions, the defendant touched Child A's penis and had Child A touch defendant's penis. On at least one occasion in approximately the summer of 2008, defendant was touching Child A's penis and then placed his mouth around it and performed oral sex. The defendant then had Child A perform oral sex on him. The defendant also anally penetrated Child A on one occasion between the summer of 2008 and the spring of 2009. The anal penetration caused pain to Child A. These incidents of sexual abuse occurred at the defendant's home in Deephaven in Hennepin County.

The defendant also took Child A to his cabin up north on multiple occasions. On one occasion the defendant anally penetrated Child A during a visit to the cabin. Child A states that this happened between summer of 2008 and spring of 2009. The anal penetration caused pain to Child A.

The sexual abuse continued between the summer of 2009 until January, 2010. Most of these incidents involved the defendant touching Child A's penis and masturbating Child A until he ejaculated.

Court documents, and account by Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner Michael Campion, suggest the Deephaven man may have been sexually abusing children at different camps, some run by the YMCA, as long ago as the 1960s.

Jacobs is free on $500,000 bond.
