Vote No Minnesota releases video on anti-gay marriage amendment
At the Capitol yesterday, hundreds showed up to support or oppose a bill that would put a constitutional ban on gay marriage on the Minnesota ballot in 2012.
A rally against the amendment started at 8:30 a.m., so we can expect a similar scene today.
But even though the bill has yet to pass the House, advocacy groups are preemptively trying to persuade Minnesotans to vote against the ban in 2012.
A video released earlier this week in connection with Vote No Minnesota and other groups warns that the amendment would create further hostility and political polarization in our state.
The video contains soundbites from Minnesota lawmakers who have publicly decried the amendment, including that classic line from Rep. Steve Simon, DFL-St. Louis Park: "How many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves if he wants them around?"
A House vote could take place as soon as today. So far, only two Republicans have spoken out against the bill, which means it has a good chance of passing.
