There’s a lot of testosterone in the air at NFL games and not just on the field. Following the Vikings' loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night, an exchange between opposing fans ended in violence outside Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

A disturbing video posted on Facebook shows a Vikings fan being beaten by several 49ers fans. The video starts with the male Vikings fan already on his back, as several men in 49ers jerseys punch and kick him repeatedly. As he tries to stand up, the men continue kicking him, despite a lone security guard’s attempt to break it up.

Lt. Kurt Clarke, a spokesman for the Santa Clara Police Department, says he’s aware of the incident and video, which has been viewed more than 1 million times on Facebook. On Tuesday afternoon, Clarke was still determining what information would be made public.

On Facebook Brandon Cosio, who posted the video, offered his account of what went down:

The Viking fan in the video and a 49er fan NOT in the video were talking smack to each other, getting into each others [sic] faces. A lot of fans from both sides were telling both people to stop and just walk to their cars. The Viking fan shoved his wife into a barrier to try to get to the 49er fan, then at that point the 49er fan walked away from the situation and that's when the Viking fan may have got a little cocky. The Viking fan turned around and addressed everyone behind him (mostly 49er fans). He said " what's up, any of you fuckers want some?!" At that point everyone went silent for 2 seconds then as the Viking fan was turning around to walk away, the 49er fan in the black (at the beginning of the video who threw the first punch) tackled him to the ground. That's where the video starts.

Cosio added that the Vikings fan “instigated the whole entire situation” and that there were “ZERO cops on the scene.”
