A University of Minnesota student was punched in the face and robbed Wednesday night by a brazen pair of muggers right outside a Dinkytown bar. The victim makes the second student to be attacked by a mugger in the area so far this month.
The victim stepped outside the Library Bar on 4th Street and 13th Avenue around 11:00 p.m. to catch some fresh air, according to university police. A stranger asked him for some money to buy a pack of cigarettes. When the student pulled out his wallet to oblige, the stranger socked him in the face, grabbed the wallet and took off running with an accomplice waiting nearby.
The student tried to chase down the suspects, but - clearly seeing their share of action movies - the two split off in different directions, according to police. The student saw the suspects pile into a silver Ford pickup truck and drive away.
Here's a description of the two suspects from Wednesday night's incident from police:
Both suspects are described as white males between the ages of 21 and 25.
The first suspect is approximately five feet ten inches to six feet one inch tall with a light build. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The second suspect is approximately five feet six inches to five feet eight inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a gray short-sleeved t-shirt and blue jeans.
Another University of Minnesota was stabbed in an attempted mugging earlier this month. The description of the suspect from the first incident is starkly different - grungy looking guy in his late 30s - so the two are probably not related.
