U of M released wrong photo of alleged West Bank gunman
These stills show the man authorities now believe to be responsible for an on-campus armed robbery attempt on Tuesday.
University of Minnesota officials now acknowledge the initial surveillance still they released of the suspect allegedly responsible for a West Bank armed robbery attempt on Tuesday identified the wrong man.
Law enforcement officials say they tracked down the man in that image -- we've removed it from our previous post about the incident at the request of U of M police -- and cleared him of any wrongdoing. The surveillance images at the top of this post capture the man officials now believe to be responsible for the attempted armed robbery of a student studying in an Anderson Hall hallway and subsequent campus lockdown.
In the still, he's shown running through the West Bank's Blegen Hall building one minute after the robbery attempt. Officials say he then darted into the West Bank tunnels and escaped.
Campus police officials are characterizing their new suspect as a "person of interest." Anyone with information about him is asked to call campus police at 612-624-COPS (the case number is UM-13-375950).
