Trooper Scott Urdahl arrested for DWI

How's this for irony: The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is trumpeting 172 DWI arrests in March during a statewide crackdown on drunken driving. Meanwhile, off-duty Minnesota State Trooper Scott Urdahl just got arrested for driving while impaired after a two-car crash Tuesday night in Darwin Township.

The DPS crackdown targets the efforts of the State Patrol, county sheriffs and local police agencies at counties that accounted for more than half of the state's 267 alcohol-related deaths from 2006-2008: Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, Olmsted, Otter Tail, Ramsey, Rice, St. Louis, Scott, Sherburne, Stearns, Washington and Wright.

Urdahl was arrested by another State Trooper in Meeker County and charged with one count of felony criminal vehicular operation. KARE reported he also admitted to texting while driving.

"This is disappointing, unacceptable behavior and it will not be tolerated," Col. Mark Dunaski, chief of the State Patrol, told KARE. "This crash demonstrates what can happen when any driver makes poor choices behind the wheel."
