Timothy Merseth: That's not what an ATV is for.Timothy Merseth tried to escape from the cops. When that didn't work, he tried to use his ATV as a missile, driving it into cop cars.

That also didn't work. Now Merseth's got a bump on his forehead, and a few pending criminal charges.

Merseth was driving his ATV on the street a little after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, when a cop saw him drive through a red light. The cop car pulled up alongside Merseth, and order him to pull over.

Instead, Merseth took off, leading police on a 15-minute chase through nearby cornfields.

During his attempted escape, Merseth slammed his ATV into three different Mankato police cars. The chase came to a bad end, too, when he ran into a Blue Earth County Sheriff's squad car and hit a tree, according to the Associated Press.

And -- surprise! -- police suspect he was drinking at the time, arresting him for fleeing an officer, criminal damage to property and a third-degree DWI. Merseth is being held in Blue Earth County Jail, pending charges.

Merseth's got a checkered driving history, with two DWI convictions in his past. Sounds like he might be due for another one.
