Tim Pawlenty's budget cuts: Nothing spared except cops, vets, K-12

On his weekly radio program today, Gov. Tim Pawlenty offered a glimpse at the budget proposal he's scheduled to release Monday. The gist: pretty much every program in state will undergo moderate-to-heavy funding cuts, with the exception of veterans' programs, cops, and K-12 education.

"Almost everything else will have to be reduced," he said. "Everything else is going to be on the table for reduction."

The programs/services Pawlenty has chosen to exempt comprise roughly half the state budget-- so it goes to follow that the bulk of the cuts will have come out of health and human services, which comprise about 30 percent of the state's total budget (or 60 percent of the non-exempt budget).
