Stephen Colbert Lampoons Michele Bachmann One Last Time

Two of the greats on screen together one last time

Two of the greats on screen together one last time

We thought we'd seen the last of Michele Bachmann -- as a US Representative anyway -- after her epic farewell speech, but she just can't stop acting ridiculous, even on her way out the door.

Last week she urged President Obama to bomb Iran after taking a family photo with him at the White House Christmas party. Colbert opened his show last night fondly wishing farewell to Bachmann and riffing on her Christmas party antics.

The last-ever Colbert Report is airing Thursday, so this doubles as a sad goodbye to both amazing conservative caricatures.

Here's what Bachmann told the Washington Free Beacon she said to the president at the Christmas party:

Despite the objections of her family members, who didn't want to be embarrassed, Bachmann said she wanted to give some "substantive comments" to the president. She waited until pictures were taken and her family walked off the stage.

"I turned to the president and I said, something to the effect of, 'Mr. President, you need to bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities, because if you don't, Iran will have a nuclear weapon on your watch and the course of world history will change,'"

"And he got his condescending smile on his face and laughed at me and said, 'Well Michele, it's just not that easy.' And I said to him, 'No, Mr. President, you're the president, it will happen on your watch, and you'll have to answer to the world for this.' And that was it and then I left. Merry Christmas," she said with a laugh.

"Now some might say that's inappropriate for a holiday party, but folks, she's consistent. Bachmann says the same thing on all of her holiday cards," quipped Colbert.
