Star Tribune concedes possible merger with rival Pioneer Press

Today the Star Tribune conceded the possibility of merging with its cross-river rival, the Pioneer Press.

The bombshell announcement came in the form of a blog misleadingly labeled "oldnews".

A merger of the Minneapolis and St. Paul daily newspapers, once unthinkable, is now thinkable.

The column then deep dives into 1876 and the merger of the Minneapolis Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Sadly, the Strib is far less forthcoming about it's current state of affairs and what kind of mergers are being discussed with the Pioneer Press.
