St. Thomas student drowned, death ruled an accident

Dan Zamlen, a St. Thomas freshman who went missing in nearly April, died from accidental drowning, according to the autopsy report.

Zamlen died from "fresh water drowning," St. Paul police said, and the investigation is closed.

Some details of the autopsy were withheld, including Zamlen's blood-alcohol content. Authorities said they were non-public details. It was reported that he had been drinking at the party he left the night he was drinking. Toxicology details would only be released through the family, authorities said.

His body was found on May 1 near the Ford plant farther downstream on the Mississippi River after an extensive search by students, family, and friends closer to campus was unsuccessful.
