St. Paul pot dealer shot by customer upset about the "bad weed" he'd sold him
When 20-year-old Darrell Gonnigan bought a bag of ganja he wasn't satisfied with, he didn't merely take his business elsewhere. Instead, he decided to show up to his dealer's St. Paul home on the 600 block of Duluth Street to try and get some of his good stuff.
That plan didn't work out too well. Gonnigan's dealer, 23-year-old Syrgeo Perez, ended up with numerous gunshot wounds, and Gonnigan has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and two counts of first-degree aggravated robbery.
St. Paul police found Perez bleeding from numerous gunshot wounds around 6 p.m. Saturday. Before he was taken to the emergency room, he told officers the man who shot him was someone he knew as "D.B." He said the man sometimes bought marijuana from him.
Using Perez's cell phone contact list, police tracked down D.B., who was later identified as Gonnigan.
"Gonnigan told police that Perez is his 'weed man,' but that he'd bought 'bad marijuana' from him and planned to go to Perez's home to take his 'good weed,'" the Pioneer Press, citing the criminal complaint, reports.
The complaint describes Gonnigan's version of what happened at Perez's home like this: "Perez told him to get out of the house. He stated Perez grabbed a bat. He pulled his gun and shot Perez."
Perez has already been released from the hospital, the PiPress reports. It's unclear whether he'll face criminal charges for admitting to selling weed, though perhaps getting shot numerous times is punishment enough.
