Last night around 5:30 p.m. two armed robbers approached a man near the Hmongtown Marketplace at Como and Pennsylvania Avenues in St. Paul's North End.

According to the Pioneer Press, the man turned out not to be an easy target.

He pulled out a gun and exchanged shots with the would-be robbers. Then, when the robbers jumped in their car and tried to escape, he hopped in his car and chased them for more than a mile down Thomas Avenue.

At the 900 block of Thomas Avenue the man caught up with the robbers and got into a second gunfight, this time hitting one of the robbers in the foot.

After the second gunfight the man, who was unharmed throughout the entire episode, drove back to the initial scene and talked with police, who say he had a permit to carry a handgun.

The robber who got shot turned up at Regions Hospital last night and had to undergo surgery on his foot. The other robber is still at-large.

We reached out to St. Paul police for more details and will update this story when we hear back.
