Just before 1 a.m. yesterday, police responding to a report of shots fired found a man lying on the 2600 block of Pleasant Avenue South with a gunshot wound. The man, identified by the Star Tribune as 31-year-old Fuad Ali, was later pronounced dead at HCMC from his injuries.
STILL UNSOLVED: Award offered for information about mysterious Whittier murder
No arrests have been made, and the MPD says they haven't received any information about suspects.
The Strib reports that Ali is a Somali father of two young boys, and his pregnant wife has another child on the way soon. The University of Minnesota graduate owned two properties along Lake Street that he rented out for events.
Fuad's cousin, Hinda Ali, told the Strib her family has "no idea what happened."
"He was a businessman and created jobs in this city. He was living the American dream," Hinda said. "For somebody who leaves their own country and is starting up somewhere new, that is an immigrant's dream. He did all of that, and his life got taken away from him, just like that. He's stripped away from his little boys and all that."
The MPD ask anyone with information to call their tipline at 612-692-8477.
