The BBC is reporting that the mothers of three American hikers being held in Iran for crossing into the country illegally may soon be allowed to visit their children. Shane Bauer, Sarah Shourd and Josh Fattal were arrested last year for crossing illegally into Iranian territory.
Bauer's mom, Cindy Hickey, of Pine City, told Minnesota Public Radio she heartened by the news. She and the two other mothers of the hikers recently wrote to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, requesting a visit.
"We recommended that the families should be able to see them and I hope that this be done," Mohammad Javad Larijani, head of Iran's High Council for Human rights, told the BBC.
