EAU CLAIRE - Three University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students say emergency personnel overreacted when the trio floated down a river on a large ice slab, and they plan to fight their citations. A campus police officer spotted them, and more than 20 emergency personnel responded.

SHEBOYGAN -- A mentally disabled man who used a brick to break into businesses to support a prescription drug addiction has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Police and school officials in Waukesha, Wis., are warning parents to check their children's cell phones after a nude photo of a 14-year-old girl was widely distributed. Capt. Mark Stigler says the photo spread until 100 or more students saw it. Stigler says police are pursuing possible felony child pornography charges against the teens who distributed the photo.

New trial for caregiver accused of stealing more than $25,000 from patient
The caregiver of an Eau Claire man who died in September 2003, accused of taking more than $25,000 from the man's bank account over a two-year period, will not receive a new trial. Eau Claire County Judge Benjamin Proctor on Monday denied Sarah R. Bluem's motion for a new trial because of ineffective counsel.
