With a roster featuring a unique blend of established veterans and young, athletic prospects, the 2014-15 Minnesota Timberwolves should be a fun team to follow, if not a successful one in terms of wins and losses.
But if one U of M student's experience is any indication, locals aren't buying it just yet. Because that student, Kirby Horgan of Mound, apparently couldn't give away a free ticket to last night's home opener.
Here's a photo Horgan posted to Reddit and Twitter explaining the situation:
KARE 11 reports that the ticket, which was posted near the corner of 14th Avenue and 7th Street Southeast in Dinkytown, still hadn't been taken at tipoff.
The photo went viral and was later picked up by Deadspin and the Sporting News. Reddit commenters had fun with it too, with this guy using one of the Common Man's classic bits:
And another pointing out that the halftime entertainment was arguably worth making the trek down to the Target Center in its own right:
Despite what the photo might lead you believe, 18,296 people actually did show up to see the Timberwolves defeat the Pistons 97-91, though many of them didn't pay to be there -- season ticket holders were given free tickets for their friends.
Sure, the Wild is a hotter product, but just wait until Thad, Bennett, Rubio, and company hit their stride this season. The T-Wolves bandwagon will fill up sooner than you can say "Flip Saunders," and Mr. Horgan will regret not taking the Green Line downtown to see Andrew Wiggins's first home game.
