Peter King vs. Chris Kluwe Twitter Fight

If there's one thing all of us armchair jocks are guilty of, it's hollering advice at the pros on the field as if we really have any clue as to how they could do their jobs better than they do.

This is more or less why Sports Illustrated writer Peter King and Vikings punter Chris Kluwe found themselves in a Twitter fight today.

Kluwe linked approvingly to a Deadspin post by Nate Jackson, the former former Broncos tight end, who said it's not cool for the team and the coach to blame the kicker for a losing game's worth of crappy play.

Here's the real link (I blame my phone). Take note of the author. This may enlighten some people. http://tinyurl.com/25zwqb9less than a minute ago via web

Jackson's post centered on a flubbed kick by Giants punter Matt Dodge. King caught wind of Kluwe's tweet and responded with the suggestion that Dodge had no one to blame but himself.

Kluwe's retort:

@SI_PeterKing Amazing how expert some people are at things they don't know how to do. Tell me, technically, what should he have done?less than a minute ago via Echofon

And away we go:

@ChrisWarcraft (Minn p Chris Kluwe): Punt the ball out of bounds. An NFL punter should be able to do that consistently.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

@SI_PeterKing Be precise please, including details such as his drop, his body angle, and the inclination of the ball.less than a minute ago via Echofon

@ChrisWarcraft: It's not my job. It's yours. You and Dodge are professional punters.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

See how it wraps up -- on a high note -- after the jump.

@SI_PeterKing Was it a bad punt? Yes. But kicking it successfully out of bounds is not as easy as some would like to pontificate on.less than a minute ago via Echofon

@SI_PeterKing Just as I thought. No idea on how to actually do it. Just a blanket statement of 'Aim the Madden arrow and hit the button'.less than a minute ago via Echofon

@SI_PeterKing Tell me, do you frequently call for pitchers to 'just throw strikes all the time', or qb's to 'just throw a touchdown'?less than a minute ago via Echofon

RT @ChrisWarcraft: Do you call for pitchers to 'just throw strikes all the time.' ... Don't make act of directional punting rocket science.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

@SI_PeterKing Right. It's my job. So why am I the one unqualified to tell you just how difficult it actually is? #mindbottlingless than a minute ago via Echofon

RT @SI_PeterKing: ... Don't make act of directional punting rocket science. -- It's actually rocket surgery. #nerdjokeformyWoWpeepsless than a minute ago via Echofon

My last word on this: Coach has right to yell at player who errs. Dodge erred. Ridiculous to blame coach for what coaches have done for yrs.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

@SI_PeterKing Seriously though, if you want me to show you exactly what goes into it, I'd be more than happy to :)less than a minute ago via Echofon

Just off phone w/@ChrisWarcraft. He'll write section of MMQB, with his feelings on directional punting, coach-reaming, etc. Should be great.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck

Big thanks to @SI_PeterKing for giving me the opportunity to explain my views on MMQB. Civil discourse prevails on the Interwebs! #booshless than a minute ago via Echofon
