Pawn America boss is big Tim Pawlenty donor

Tim Pawlenty's political action committee reported its first-quarter fund-raising numbers today, and one of the folks who maxed out the contribution limit runs a pawn-shop chain called Pawn America. We're going to let you supply your own punchline on that one.

Most of Pawlenty's support came from out of state, but he still got plenty of love from Minnesota bigwigs. Besides Pawn America CEO Brad Rixmann, Minnesota contributors giving the maximum amount are Best Buy founder Richard Schulze, former gubernatorial candidate and Twins director Wheelock Whitney, and executives at United Health Group, Voyager Financial Services, Securian Financial.

Pawlenty's quarterly total puts him ahead of potential rival Sarah Palin, but well behind former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
