NorthStar Rollergirls season opener this Saturday
The air is brisk, the leaves are changing color, and women in roller skates are beating the crap out of each other. It must be fall. Last weekend marked the start of St. Paul's Minnesota Rollergirls. This weekend it's time for the Northstar Rollergirls to be brutal in Minneapolis.
The game is 6:30 p.m. this Saturday at the Minneapolis Convention Center (1301 Second Ave. S., Minneapolis; 612.335.6000). Trackside seating is sold out, but tickets for other spots are available online and at the door for $10-$14. The evening's bouts are Kilmore Girls versus Violent Femmes and Delta Delta Di versus Banger Sisters.
It's strongly encouraged that fans wear costumes for the game. There will also be live DJ sets, a full bar, and an after party at Grumpy's following the event.
Even though this is the season opener, teams should already be in fine form. This past September NorthStar Rollergirls ranked a respectable fifth in the Brawl of America Regional Championships (Minnesota Rollergirls ranked ninth).
