Motorcyclist lies dead in the street after hitting MPD squad during police chase [PHOTOS]

During a police chase in the Lyn-Lake area this afternoon (see our full story about all the mayhem here), a motorcyclist was struck by a police squad near West 26th Street and Blaisdell Avenue (the exact circumstances aren't immediately clear -- see update below). After the accident, the biker lay dead in the street as officers engaged in a shootout with the suspect they were chasing a few blocks away. The suspect was killed and two officers were injured (both are expected to live).

But minutes earlier, the MPD tweeted this:
Squad/motorcycle collision occurred at intersection of 26th & Blaisdell. Squad was heading to shooting at 27th & Bryant.-- Minneapolis Police (@MPD_PIO) May 10, 2013
The MPD also says there were two people on the motorcycle at the time of the crash:
